Juvederm® Volbella

Juvederm® Volbella is an FDA-approved dermal filler for correcting or minimizing the look of shallow fine lines and wrinkles. California Skin Institute was one of the first practices in Northern California to offer Volbella and the practitioners use this filler to help patients address mild wrinkles with virtually no pain and requires no downtime. Volbella is part of the Allergan family, so patients can have confidence in the dermal filler treatment.

How Volbella Works

Like other fillers in the Juvederm® family of products, Volbella is formulated with hyaluronic acid. This is an important ingredient in skincare applications because it can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles by providing volume under the skin and attracting moisture to the treatment site. And because hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the human body, dermal fillers with this ingredient are less likely to cause side effects.

However, although they work similarly, not all dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid are meant to treat the same issues. When it comes to Volbella, its formulation uses a new way of linking hyaluronic acid molecules to allow for a thinner consistency when injected under the skin. Further, the cross-linking method creates a dermal filler that produces longer-lasting outcomes.

What Volbella Treats

This treatment was designed to address mild wrinkles and fine lines. As such, it should not be used to add volume to the cheeks or other parts of the face. For enhanced volume, Juvederm® Voluma is a much better choice, as Voluma was specifically designed with volume enhancement in mind.

Volbella is more suitable for shallower injections to treat fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the mouth. As such, it can help address perioral lines and provide a more youthful appearance to the lips.

Combination Treatments

For patients who would like to address several issues at once, Volbella can be combined with a number of other dermal fillers, for an enhanced outcome. For example, after addressing lip wrinkles with Volbella, fillers like Sculptra or Radiesse can be used to target nasolabial folds.

If a patient would like to target eye wrinkles in addition to lip treatment with Volbella, fillers like Bellafill or Restylane® can be used on the upper half of the face. Further, this treatment can be combined with Juvederm® Voluma, to give the face more contour to complement the improved appearance of the lips.

For frown lines and crow’s feet, Volbella lip treatments can be complemented by neuromodulators like Botox® or Dysport.

Volbella Side Effects

Treatments require little or no downtime. In some cases, a patient may experience side effects that may include mild redness and discomfort at the injection site after treatment, which should subside within a few days. Most patients do not experience visible side effects and even come in for treatment during their lunch breaks.

What to Expect During Treatment

When you visit California Skin Institute for a Volbella treatment, your provider will first listen to your concerns to better understand your goals. Then based on your aesthetic goals, your practitioner will explain the various treatment options to you and will help you understand which treatments are best for you. During your consultation, you will also have the opportunity to ask any questions to fully understand what to expect from your customized treatment plan.

During the injection process, one of our providers will use very thin needles to inject Volbella under the skin. The process is not painful or scary. The needles are very thin, and any discomfort is kept to a minimum.
