Welcome Rossitza Lazova, MD

California Skin Institute is excited to announce that internationally-recognized and board certified dermatopathologist Rossitza Lazova, MD is our new Director of Dermatopathology. Joining us directly from Yale University where she was an Associate Professor and Director of the Yale Dermatopathology fellowship training program, Dr. Lazova brings decades of superlative dermatopathology skills to Northern California. A brief biography of her amazing career and accomplishments follows:

Dr. Rossitza Lazova completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. She trained in Dermatopathology with Dr. A. Bernard Ackerman at the Institute for Dermatopathology at Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. After the completion of her fellowship Dr. Lazova started her academic career at the Department of Dermatology, Yale University School of Medicine in 1997, where she spent almost 20 years.

Dr. Lazova’s main interests are in melanocytic lesions and particularly Spitz nevi, Spitzoid melanoma and conventional melanoma. Recently, she introduced Mass Spectrometry Imaging as a method to aim in the diagnostic process of difficult melanocytic lesions. Dr. Lazova has taught many courses and directed numerous sessions at national and international meetings in the USA and throughout the world. She has been a Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship at Yale University for more than fourteen years. Dr. Lazova has trained many fellows and residents. She has developed an international program and has supervised and taught over fifty physicians from four continents.

Dr. Lazova has published numerous articles in peer–reviewed journals and is a co–author of two textbooks. She is on the editorial board of many reputable scientific journals and has served in several professional societies. She is currently the Vice President of the International Society of Dermatopathology.
