Cosmetic Injectables for Men

Posted on: May 31st, 2016 by csiaccess

Here at California Skin Institute, we work with male patients every day, and we see first-hand the impact that properly-performed treatments can have for a man.* It’s not just about looking your best, but about a profound change in social attitudes that has liberated many men to admit to themselves that they really do care about their looks…because after all, looking your best is a unisex concept. And this trend of injectables for men has been picking up speed.

For example, since 2010, the number of injectable treatments obtained by men has increased by approximately 26% in the United States. Let’s take a closer look at how we approach facial fillers and injectables for our male patients.*

neuromodulators

When it comes to the most common injectable treatments for men, neuromodulators like Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are some of the most popular. In fact, approximately two thirds of all injectable procedures performed on men in 2015 were for treating wrinkles with Botulinum toxin A.

What makes Botox so popular with men is the ability of this treatment to reduce the appearance of expression lines – like forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines – in a way that looks very natural.*

Because the change in social norms is still taking place, male patients are typically very nervous about other people being able to tell that they’ve had work done. We hear this concern a lot from our male patients, especially since many still view Botox as something that gives your face a fake, ‘plastic’ appearance.

But what many patients don’t initially realize – and this is one of the reasons why men tend to hold off such procedures longer – is that Botox can produce outcomes that look very natural.* It’s all about the expertise of the doctor performing the treatment.*

Here at California Skin Institute we’ve performed tens of thousands of Botox treatments; experience that gives us a very deep understanding of how an injectable will affect a patient’s facial structures.* Further, having worked with many male patients, our providers have been able to design a more specialized treatment approach that takes into account the subtle differences in the anatomical differences between the faces of men and women.* To achieve a natural improvement with injectables for men, these differences have to be taken into account.*

Facial Fillers for Men

In addition to Botox treatments, more men are opting for facial fillers to address the loss of facial volume and deep expression lines around the mouth.* Let’s take a closer look at how some of these fillers can be used for men.*

  • Under Eye Hollowness:  One of the more common aging problems for men is the development of hollowness under the eyes. This occurs gradually, as fatty tissues become depleted or migrate under the force of gravity. Unfortunately, this can create a perpetually tired, sickly appearance in an individual who is perfectly healthy. To address this issue, California Skin Institute providers can use Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane.* Hyaluronic acid fillers are an excellent choice in many cases, because they create immediate, subtle volume in the face.*
  • Nasolabial Folds:  These wrinkles run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth, and develop largely due to repeated facial expressions. Eventually, these lines can become very deep, causing a significant change in facial appearance. To soften these lines, California Skin Institute providers can use a number of fillers, including Sculptra.* What makes Sculptra such a good choice for this area is that the injection can stimulate the production of your very own collagen, producing more support for the skin at the treatment site.*
  • Stronger Jaw Line:  Although a jaw implant can provide a dramatic, long-term improvement in the appearance of a weak jaw, dermal fillers can be used to create a subtle, but powerful change in the size and contour of the jaw.* By using dermal fillers like Juvederm, Bellafill, and Restylane, our providers are able to sculpt the jaw to give it a stronger appearance.*
  • Temple Hollowness:  Another place where men can lose facial volume is in the temples. California Skin Institute providers can increase the volume of the temples through careful injections of fillers that will bring more balance to the face.*

Kybella Double Chin Treatments

A little over a year ago, in April 2015, the FDA approved Kybella, a revolutionary injectable treatment for treating a double chin without any surgery.* This treatment works through a series of injections that gradually damage the fat cells under the chin.* These cells are then gradually removed from the body by the lymphatic system.*

This gradual reduction makes the change look like natural weight loss, and makes it difficult for others to tell that you’ve had the treatment.*

Meaningful nationwide statistics are not yet available for this procedure, but here at California Skin Institute we’ve noticed a large proportion of men obtaining this treatment.

We believe that as the official data begins to come in, Kybella will prove to be one of the most popular treatments for men, because the improvements don’t just create a neckline that looks more fit, but a jaw line that communicates strength and leadership.*
