Our History

As a whole, CSI is the merger of six well-known and respected dermatology practices to create the largest private practice dermatology group with one of the broadest medical, surgical, and pathology services in Northern California. We have twenty board certified physicians (dermatology, oncology, pathology, and podiatry), one nurse practitioner, and three physician assistants who provide a broad range of expertise to cover the full spectrum of skin disease and treatment.

The California Skin Institute was formed in 2007 by the merger of the medical and cosmetic dermatology practice of Sara L. Colby, MD and Associates in San Jose and the dermatologic surgery practice of Greg S. Morganroth, MD in Mountain View, California. In March 2008, the Saratoga medical and cosmetic dermatology practice of Georgia K. Abrams merged with the California Skin Institute to provide a third location for our patients. In November 2008, Elizabeth A. Abel, MD merged her practice with the Mountain View location bringing her expertise in psoriasis and general dermatology to CSI. In September 2009, Todd Anhalt, MD merged his practice with CSI to form a fourth location in Los Altos. In December 2009, CSI opened its flagship office at 2420 Samaritan Drive on the San Jose/Los Gatos border consisting of a large, two-story free-standing Skin Institute with state-of-the-art facilities including an outpatient surgery center, Mohs surgery laboratory, full service pathology laboratory, skin bar, retail center, meeting center, centralized business office, and extensive patient care space.  In 2010, CSI opened two new locations in San Mateo and San Francisco.  In July 2011, the practices of Drs. Susan Wolf and Lynn Sydor merged with our existing San Mateo practice to form CSI-San Mateo.  In January of 2012, we welcomed the launch of the Radiation Oncology Center at CSI. This unique collaboration between dermatology, Mohs surgery, radiation oncology, dermatopathology and plastic surgery practitioners, CSI now provides accessible, multi-disciplinary, and comprehensive treatment for skin cancer patients.
