How the Fraxel DUAL Laser Technology Works
Fraxel DUAL uses patented fractional technology to target damaged skill cells. To accomplish this the hand piece has a “smart scanning” feature to map the contours of your skin. This allows the Fraxel laser to target blemishes and imperfections. This “factional” approach makes the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 technology truly revolutionary. After mapping the contours of your skin, the laser produces thousands of microscopic laser columns which penetrate 400 to 700 microns deep into the skin. As the tissue heats up, the old pigmented cells are eliminated leaving the surrounding areas unaffected.
Fraxel DUAL 1550 and 1927 Frequency Lasers in our Mountain View, San Jose, and San Mateo Clinics
The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 has the unique benefit of two separate treatment modes. Each mode utilizes two different laser frequencies to effectively target both the surface and deeper layers of the skin. To better understand how these two frequencies work together, it’s important to understand what type of problems each frequency effectively repairs.
The 1550 frequency penetrates deep into the skin layers, specifically targeting concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring. This frequency has the greatest effect on the root cause of wrinkles and scarring by targeting and promoting healing in the dermal layer where collagen is produced. The 1927 is the other laser frequency used in the DUAL system. This concentration of light energy improves the tone, texture, and surface appearance of your skin. The results are much more subtle, but when combined with the 1550 frequency yield stunning results.
Benefits of Fractional Laser Resurfacing in Mountain View
Previous cosmetic lasers were moderately effective, but came with downsides. For instance, ablative lasers (also known as CO2 or Erbium lasers) literally vaporize surface skin, and require lengthy recovery between sessions. On the other hand, non-ablative lasers are gentler, but also less effective in clinical applications.
The Fraxel Dual laser features two treatment modes with two different laser frequencies to overcome problems associated with traditional surgical laser. This makes Fraxel a non-invasive treatment with rapid recovery times. In fact, Fraxel laser treatments are so precise they’re compatible with other cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers (Botox).
What to Expect in Your Treatment
Fraxel treatments are administered in our Mountainview, San Jose, and San Mateo clinics. A single treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, but we recommend you reserve around two hours of your time for appointments. Each treatment targets between 15 and 20 percent of the skin’s surface. Laser resurfacing in Mountainview only requires a mild anesthetic, and most patients say the procedure feels like a mild prickling sensation.
You can return to routine activities immediately after treatment. After laser resurfacing treatments it’s important you apply sunscreen at least twice a day to protect your skin. We recommend a moisturizing sunblock with an SPF of 30 or greater.
Results are both immediate and progressive with most patients noticing marked improvement after a single treatment. Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues, with some patients experiencing smoother, youthful looking skin for up to a year. The number of sessions you’ll need to treat your skin depends on your aesthetic goals, lifestyle, and condition of your skin. Most patients get the desired outcome after 3 to 6 treatment sessions.
