What is Macromastia?

Macromastia is a condition of excessively large breasts. Women may have symptoms of neck, back, and shoulder pain in addition to skin rashes. Breast reduction surgery removes skin, fat, and glandular tissue improving the shape of the breast and decreasing the size. Overall, breast reduction surgery can improve the aesthetic balance of a woman’s upper torso.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery can be done through a traditional scar (Wise-pattern) or a short scar (lollipop) technique. Although some surgeons do only one type or the other, we tailor our approach based upon your body type and breast size.

Breast reduction surgery takes between 3 to 4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the size of the reduction, patients may go home or stay overnight. The recovery period is usually 1 to 2 weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 2 to three weeks.

During your consultation, we will review all pros and cons of the different types of breast reduction. We will develop a personalized plan tailored to your preferences and body type. The results of breast reduction are long lasting when combined with a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise.
