Breast Lift Mastopexy | San Jose, Mountain View, San Mateo
The breast changes shape as a result pregnancy, breast feeding, and aging. Many women seek to improve the shape of the breast without changing the size. Mastopexy, also known as a “breast lift,” improves the shape of the breast through the use of surgery. During the operation, skin is removed and the breast mound is sculpted to regain a more youthful appearance of the breast.
Types of Breast Lift Mastopexy
There are many types of mastopexy and there is no “one” best technique. We believe that operations should be tailored to the patient, and the choice of the operation depends on the patient’s body and breast type. Options include peri-areolar (around the nipple), vertical short scar (lollipop), and traditional (inverted “T”). During your consultation, we will review the pros and cons of each type of mastopexy and help you develop a mutual surgical plan. Mastopexy can be combined with breast augmentation for women who want to increase their breast size.
The operation takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the patient and is performed under general anesthesia. The operation can usually be performed as an outpatient with patient going home following surgery. A family member or friend should be available to spend the night with the patient.
The recovery from the operation is approximately 1 week. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 2 to 3 weeks. The results are generally long lasting, but depend on an individual’s skin elasticity and lifestyle.
