Breast Augmentation | San Jose, Mountain View, San Mateo

Breast augmentation is a very common cosmetic operation performed in the U.S. Women may elect to undergo breast augmentation for many reasons. Some women want to increase the size or shape of their breasts. Other women may be self-conscious following pregnancy, breast feeding, or massive weight loss. Breast augmentation can dramatically change a woman’s appearance and self esteem by improving the size and changing the size of the breasts to give a fuller or more youthful appearance.

Saline or Silicone?

Women may choose between saline and silicone implants. We will discuss with you the pros and cons of each type of implant during your consultation. Implants can be placed either above or below the muscle depending on your body type. Three types of incisions are available for the placement of implants: inframammary (breast crease), peri-areolar (around the nipple), and trans-axillary (armpit). During your consultation, we will discuss the risks and benefits of each incision. Often, the choice of the incision is determined by body type, skin type, and patient anatomy.

Day of Surgery Expectations

The operation takes 1 to 2 hours to perform, depending on the patient. Generally, the operation is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Patient can go home later the same day but should have a family member or friend stay with them. The recovery period ranges from 3 days to 1 week. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 2 to 3 weeks. The average lifespan of a breast implant is approximately 10 years and most patients will require minor operations in the future.
