Greg S. Morganroth, M.D. is the Founder and President of the California Skin Institute. He is one of a handful of Board Certified, Fellowship-Trained Dermatologic Surgeons in the San Francisco Bay Area specializing in Mohs Surgery, laser surgery, reconstructive, and cosmetic dermatologic surgery. Dr. Morganroth is an expert in the surgical management of skin diseases, skin cancer, laser surgery, and advanced cosmetic techniques performed with local anesthesia. He has performed over 18,000 Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction procedures for skin cancer since 1995. Between 2006 and 2009, he performed over 6000 Mohs surgery procedures to remove complicated skin cancers followed by advanced reconstruction of the skin defect for the best cosmetic result. He is also recognized nationally in his field for his unique, minimally invasive cosmetic rejuvenation procedures with local anesthesia. Since 1995, he has performed thousands of facelifts, eyelifts, liposuction, neck sculpting, chin implants, scar revisions, laser procedures, chemical peels, and hair transplants with local anesthesia.
He is a native of Michigan and was an undergraduate at The University of Michigan. He received his M.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan School of Medicine where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. Dr. Morganroth completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania and a dermatology residency at Yale University. During his dermatology residency, his clinical interests focused on the advanced surgical management of skin disorders including skin cancer surgery, laser surgery, and reconstructive surgery. After completing his dermatology training at Yale in 1994, he was one of approximately 35 dermatologists in the world to begin a Mohs, Laser, and Dermatologic Surgery fellowship emphasizing skin oncology and Mohs, laser, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. This fellowship, approved by the American College of Mohs Surgery, was completed in 1995 at the Skin and Mohs Surgery Center, Baptist Medical Center and Hunkeler Eye Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri. During this fellowship, he trained with a Mohs and laser surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, and ophthalmic plastic surgeon providing a broad foundation of surgical training. Following his fellowship, he moved to Silicon Valley to enter a private practice of dermatologic surgery in the summer of 1995.
Dr. Morganroth has spent his career focusing on developing state-of-the-art, local anesthesia skin surgery techniques combining facets of dermatologic surgery, facial plastic surgery, and ophthalmic plastic surgery. His surgical procedures provide dramatic and natural results with the safety and minimal downtime afforded by the use of local anesthesia. He is frequently asked to present his reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery techniques at national dermatology and facial plastic surgery meetings. Recently, New York University in New York City invited him to give the keynote lecture at their Advanced Dermatology Course titled "One Perspective on the Future of Advanced Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery". He has been invited to publish multiple book chapters on his Vertical Vector Facelift technique, chin augmentation, facial reconstruction, and his approach to prevent and correct facelift complications in multiple prominent dermatologic surgery reference textbooks. He has also published numerous clinical and research articles since medical school in prestigious medical journals including: The New England Journal of Medicine; Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Clinics in Plastic Surgery; Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology; Archives of Dermatology; and Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
In June 2004, California Skin Institute’s Mohs and Advanced Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Training Program was approved by The American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Morganroth’s one-year dermatologic surgery training program is one of approximately 75 active training programs in the world and one of the only two fellowship programs offered in the San Francisco Bay Area. Three of his past surgical fellows have been recruited to academic medical centers on the East and West coasts to treat patients and train dermatology residents in advanced techniques. Two past fellows entered private practice in Southern California and Northern California and third returned to treat our military personnel as a Mohs surgeon in the US Army. As a recipient of multidisciplinary training during his fellowship, Dr. Morganroth enjoys collaborating with colleagues from dermatology and other surgical specialties. He is regularly visited by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, and oculoplastic surgeons from the US and abroad to observe him operate at the California Skin Institute. He has held various academic appointments that currently include Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University, clinical faculty of the Mittelman Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship training program based in Los Altos, CA, and previously as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco. He was founder and co-director of the Next Step Dermatologic Surgery Course at Stanford University in 2004-2005 and will be reviving the Next Step Dermatologic Surgery Course at the new California Skin Institute surgery center and conference center at the San Jose/Los Gatos location beginning in early 2010.
Dr. Morganroth is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, California Dermatology Society, and the American Academy of Dermatology. Georgia K. Abrams, M.D. - (Saratoga and San Jose/Los Gatos offices)
In her own words: "I was born and raised in a small town in central Illinois. My father owned the one drug store in town where during my high school years I worked part time. After high school, I attended pharmacy school at the University of Illinois. It was my father’s hope that I would come back home to take over the family business. But during pharmacy school I realized that medicine was my calling. After graduating pharmacy school and taking some summer school classes to meet my pre med requirements, I attended medical school at University of Illinois in Chicago. During those years I met and married my husband, who was in orthodontic training at that time. Between the time of my residency and starting private practice we had two children, a son and a daughter who are now married and have children of their own.
In 1963, I started my private practice of dermatology in San Jose, California. After several years I moved to Saratoga where I have continued to practice for over 35 years. During those years I have seen some remarkable changes in the field. In my early years I treated skin diseases and did very little surgery. As dermatology became more of a surgical field, I took many post graduate courses in skin surgery and cosmetic procedures. In the l980’s I became interested in fat transplantation to fill in facial wrinkles. I went to Paris, France to learn liposuction and fat transplantation from the experts there. From then on I have been performing a variety of cosmetic procedures including laser, filling agents, Thermage and Botox.
I enjoy providing cosmetic procedures because I like to make patients look better and feel better about themselves. I feel privileged to be part of a dermatology group which is dedicated to providing the best skin care for all types of dermatological problems."
