COSMETIC SURGERY FELLOWSHIP

The Advanced Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship is a 53-week fellowship program which is run in parallel with the Mohs Surgery fellowship. The fellowship incorporates the same exposure to surgery as the Mohs fellowship except that there will not be any training in Mohs Surgery. The fellowship is not recognized by the American College of Mohs Surgery and there will be no certification for Mohs surgery. Therefore, this fellowship is appropriate for an individual who does not want to perform Mohs surgery, has already completed a Mohs fellowship, or is interested in applying for a Mohs fellowship for the following year.

This fellowship is designed to train the individual to be an elite cosmetic dermatologic surgeon with an understanding of the marketing, consultation and selection of patients, performance of procedures, and post-operative care. The cosmetic surgery fellow will participate in all cosmetic procedures and will be an active participant in facial reconstruction procedures following Mohs surgery. In contrast, the Mohs fellow primarily focuses on the skin cancer patients and participates in all cosmetic surgeries, however has a much smaller role in the marketing, consultations, pre-operative appointments, and post-operative care of cosmetic patients.

The cosmetic fellows will directly collaborate with the four cosmetic consultants and numerous nurses in marketing (lectures, marketing events), consultation appointments, pre-operative evaluation and counseling, and post-operative care of all cosmetic procedures. The cosmetic fellow will take the lead in the performance of various laser procedures (Fraxel, pigmented and vascular laser, and intense pulsed light) and injectibles. Direct hands-on exposure in face lifts, neck lifts, submentoplasty, upper blepharoplasty, carbon dioxide laser transconjunctival blepharoplasty, mandibular implants, TCA chemical peeling, brow lifts, liposuction, fat transfer, acne scar revision, laser surgery, hair transplantation, and advanced filler applications will take place on a daily basis.

The fellow will have an opportunity to work with board certified facial plastic surgeons (2), oculoplastic surgeons (2), and a plastic surgeon (1) to illustrate the multidisciplinary approach which defines the techniques taught in this fellowship.

The cosmetic fellow will have the same benefit package, expectations for publication, and attendance at medical meetings as the Mohs fellow.

At the end of the fellowship, the cosmetic fellow will be able to build a cosmetic practice, competently perform a broad range of cutting edge cosmetic procedures, and understand how to achieve a dramatic, but natural, rejuvenation with the safety of local anesthesia.

Please view the Mohs Fellowship page for the application requirements which are identical for both fellowships. Please contact with any questions.
